Cuban music has its principal roots in Spain and Africa, from the time when Cuba was colonized by Spain, who brought African slaves to the island. As time has passed, Cuban music has been influenced by diverse genres from different countries.
On the other hand, Cuban music has been significantly influential in other countries, contributing not only to the development of jazz and salsa, but also to other rhythms. Cuban music is the basis for many other Latin American musical styles, such as Salsa.
The main traditional musical form in Cuba is Son.
